
It started with about 4,000 pages of content and ended with a site that stood out in the higher ed space.
Like many websites, Lesley University’s had gotten cumbersome over time. Thanks to our collaborative relationship, we were able to streamline the website to create an experience that celebrates each user’s journey while guiding them to their destination.

Lesley’s team wanted this site to stand out in the higher ed landscape because Lesley does things a bit differently from other universities. They’re focused on hands-on learning, letting students drive their education by pursuing their unique goals.
This is what led to the idea of having website navigation driven by each user’s goals, complete with “Reach Your Goals” framing on the site’s homepage to orient the reader in this unique experience.

After forming a game plan with senior leadership, we landed on an unexpected approach. Instead of a vertical navigation, horizontal navigation revealed the full suite of options for users—exhaustive, but not overwhelming. This recreates the very specific journey we created for users coming via the homepage while accommodating users that didn’t arrive that way. Although we streamlined the content, this approach pushed us to stretch and find different ways to showcase the information on the site.




For the design theme, we took a uniquely balanced approach to create a site built on flexible elements. We focused on creating robust templates with custom, adjustable components; this gave the team’s growing organization control and flexibility while keeping the look and feel intact.
Collaborating with the writing team was critical, helping us make sure that all the unique elements—which featured actual content—accounted for their needs without becoming overwhelming for admin users. Video and true-to-life imagery created a sense of dynamism to the visual approach, culminating in a web experience that’s as vibrant as Lesley’s audience.
