The ingredients for growth

CommonWealth Kitchen (CWK), a nonprofit food business incubator in Boston, had been supporting BIPOC and women-owned entrepreneurs for years. As CWK grew, so did their need to find more expansive ways to spread the word about their inspiring members. They needed solutions that would get member products out to consumers and buyers, design approaches that would draw prospective customers to member showcases, and a creative partner that would join them during this next phase of growth. And with us, they got all three.

Finding new audiences (and helping them find us)

CommonWealth Kitchen hosted a full tradeshow at Sowa (an arts & design space) to showcase all of their member brands. They invited retailers, food service operators, and media, and they wanted us to help them stand out. Between all of the food trucks and offerings, this was a huge opportunity for CommonWealth Kitchen, the attendees, and us. 

We created t-shirts and banners to draw people in. Working closely with their event planner, we designed wayfinding materials to help people find things in each aisle.  A robust catalog spotlighted participants and the sponsors. And we designed a map of the show floor to help people to navigate the event and find their next favorite food brand.

Presenting the best of CWK

CommonWealth Kitchen’s team had the idea for a holiday gift box featuring their food entrepreneurs’ products. It had to be festive. It had to feel special. And just in case they wanted to expand it beyond the holiday season, it also couldn’t feel tied to a single culture or tradition. We came up with a vibrant, premium design that worked whether you got your box in December or July. 

We also added an information card with photos and information about their food businesses to humanize their impact (and help them earn repeat customers). A catalog offered information about every single CommonWealth Kitchen food business, presenting it in an inviting scannable way. Throughout these projects, we extended and refined their visual identity in a way that honored its foundational principles and more completely brought their brand to life.
