In the earlier days of the internet, only the system fonts that were pre-installed on a computer could be displayed as live type on the web. These standard fonts enabled each user to have a consistent and legible experience regardless of their computer or web browser.

With webfonts we can branch away from the same old standard fonts and add some variety and unique typography to websites. They are hosted and referenced online so a visitor no longer needs to have the font installed on their machine.

Having more choices for fonts is a huge benefit since typography conveys so much in the way of character, emotion and brand in graphic design. But while there's a lot to choose from, we try not to go nuts. You can find more webfonts on Fontsquirrel here.
